“Behind Every Good Business is a Great Accountant”

Updated: Jun 22, 2018

Now I’m not one for tooting my own horn, but I think the situation calls for it. Partly because yes, I do believe that as a team we are very good at what we do and partly because “toot!” this is my first blog post!

Behind every good business is a good accountant

I’m Catherine and I’m co-founder of BCT Accountants.

I encounter people almost on a daily basis who ask me why they should use an accountant. It’s understandable really. When you are starting a new business costings are something that you will be keeping a very close eye on and often people will think that an accounting bill on top of all the other expenses they have just isn’t feasible. So to all those individuals and businesses out there who aren’t sure whether or not hiring someone to crunch those numbers is important, I’ve compiled a list of 4 reasons that your business will benefit from having an accountant.

1 – They can save you valuable time

Whether you own a SME, are a sole trader or run a limited company you will want to give priority to those tasks that can enable you to generate business, make money or complete work you have won. I’m going to take a wild guess that doing your accounts probably doesn’t fall in to any of these categories.

Handing this time consuming and complicated work over to an accountant will allow you the time you need to do what you do best. Most companies will handle any level of accounting needs from annual tax return completion to daily bookkeeping tasks.

2 – They can save you money

All businesses will have expenses, so why pay out more than you have to! It can often be difficult to know where you can cut costs and where you need to spend your money.

Accountants have extensive knowledge and experience of tax laws, as well as thorough accounting experience which means that they can advise you on the best way to increase your profits quickly and easily.

3 – They can take charge of complex accounting tasks for you

As a business owner you will have an in-depth knowledge of your industry, your customers and your procedures. That is exactly the same for accountants. We understand accountancy inside and out and we use that expertise to complete complex and time-consuming tasks for you.

You may have already come across some of these situations if you are currently doing your own accounting. Perhaps you were able to overcome it but it took you a long time, or perhaps you made a mistake that you found difficult to fix. Just remember that accountancy firms are here to help – that’s why we became accountants.

4 – They can help you to grow your business

The knowledge and experience that an accountant can offer you will be worth its weight in gold and is much more than just how to complete a tax return. Accountants can be a great insight when it comes to growing your business too.

Most good accountants will learn the ins and outs of your business, which will in turn enable them to advise you on which steps to take to give you the best chance of success now and in the future.

So there you have it; just a few reasons that I think having an accountant is a great idea for any business. If you do have any questions or would like more information on whether or not an accountant would benefit your business, please feel free to get in touch for a chat. And thanks for reading!
